The Minority Spokesperson on Energy in Ghana’s Parliament, John Abdulai Jinapor, has raised concerns over a $24 million contract between Ghana Gas and Rockshore, which he claims has not been executed despite advance payments.

Speaking in an interview with JoyNews on September 25, 2024, Jinapor stated, “I have with me documentary evidence of a contract between this same Ghana Gas and Rockshore for a bottling plant at a whopping sum of 24 million dollars when a similar plant was constructed in Tema for $14 million.”

Jinapor, who is also the Member of Parliament for Yapei Kusawgu, further criticised the situation, revealing that the company, Rockshore, has received a 30% advance payment, however, field information indicates that little to no work has been done.

“The work was to be done within 24 months, from 2021 to date, and your guess is as good as mine. Yet, Ghana Gas has been obstructed from pursuing Rockshore, either in receiving the money back or compelling them to execute the project,” he added.

Jinapor urged the CEO of Ghana Gas Company Limited to take immediate steps to retrieve the advance payment.

He also issued a stern warning about the future under a potential John Dramani Mahama government, stating that within the first 120 days in office, they would demand full accountability.

“The future John Dramani Mahama government will not hesitate within our first 120 days to demand full accountability to ensure all these wrongful payments are corrected and also ensure that those culpable are held liable,” he added.

The Minority further urged the Ghana National Gas Company to submit an $800 million gas processing contract for parliamentary scrutiny, raising concerns about transparency and potential financial risks to the state.
