Ghana Gas announces temporary disruption in power supply due to technical fault

The Ghana National Gas Company (Ghana Gas) has confirmed a temporary disruption in gas supply for power generation following a technical challenge at the Atuabo Gas Processing Plant.

The interruption according to Ghana Gas occurred on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, causing a reduction in the flow of gas needed for power production.

According to an official statement issued by Ernest Kofi Owusu-Bempah Bonsu, Head of Corporate Communications at Ghana Gas, the problem arose due to a plant equipment trip, which impacted the facility’s gas flow rate and as a result, the gas supply was reduced to 40 million standard cubic feet per day (MMscfd), representing only 45% of the plant’s normal capacity.

“The Ghana National Gas Limited Company (Ghana Gas) wishes to inform the general public that due to an unexpected technical challenge at the Atuabo Gas Processing Plant, Gas supply for power generation was limited during the peak hours of yesterday, 25th September, 2024,” part of the statement said.

The statement added, ”Our Team is working assiduously around the clock to ensure stability of the plant.

“Ghana Gas deeply regrets any inconvenience this may have caused and we assure the general public that there will be full Gas flow for power generation in due course.”
