Recycle Up! Ghana collaborates with Buzstop Boys for a cleanup exercise as part of activities to mark 10th anniversary

A non-profit environmental organization, Recycle Up! Ghana has teamed with Buzstop Boys for a cleanup exercise as part of activities to celebrate their 10th anniversary.

The exercise took place within and around the Ayigya affordable housing in Kumasi. Although the activity was to kick start the myriads of activities lined up for the 10 years anniversary of Recycle Up! Ghana, the exercise also marked the World Cleanup Day, celebrated on September 20 every year.

“This marks the beginning of a series of activities to commemorate our decade-long journey towards sustainability, environmental education, and community empowerment.”

The 10 years anniversary is under the theme: “Journey to Green Sustainability: Reflecting and Celebrating 10 Years of Progress.”

Salim Abubakar, Hub Manager of Recycle Up! Ghana explained the rationale behind the collaboration with Buzstop Boys and the choice of

“As part of our 10 years anniversary, we wanted to do something different. This time around collaborated with Buzstop Boys to target areas that are really more of neglected and not been taken care of in terms of sanitation.

“We chose the affordable house to be able to have a good clean which you could see the impact clearly,” he said.

Salim further underscored the need for public education on cleanliness and sanitation at abandoned sites in communities, emphasising that they may become breeding grounds for several health challenges.

On his part, Team Lead for Buzstop Boys, Kumasi, Gideon Kofi Darkwa said his outfit agreed to embark on this exercise as it aligns with their vision to ensure sanitation in environment.

“The reason why we joined Recycle Up! Ghana is because we have also realized that we are doing the same thing like collecting plastic and waste and then recycling them. We felt that there is need for us to join forces to partner on this special day of sanitation,” Gideon noted.

The four-month long anniversary celebration will include other events such as buy black activity and community engagement, ten days sustainability challenge, a pitch challenge, CGEP graduation and exhibition and a closing ceremony in December.
