We’re committed to producing a robust voters register

The Electoral Commission (EC) has assured the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and other relevant stakeholders of its commitment to producing a credible and robust voters register.

Responding after receiving a petition submitted by leadership of the NDC after its ‘Enough is Enough’ protest on Tuesday, September 17, the Deputy Chairman in charge of Operations at the EC, Samuel Tettey, stressed in a signed statement that processes towards producing a final voters register are still in their early stages.

The EC indicated that it is “mindful that the Voters Register is the bedrock of credible, fair and transparent elections” and therefore remains committed to producing a robust voters register ahead of the December 7 general elections.

NDC and its regional offices protested against the EC on Tuesday, demanding that a forensic audit be conducted on the voters register over some discrepancies the leadership of the party says were uncovered when it took delivery of the provisional voters register.

The NDC among other things, claims there are well over 243,000 illegal names on the transferred list alone which must be investigated.

Below is the EC’s response.
