The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has stated that the Electoral Commission (EC) is running away from permitting a forensic audit to be conducted on the 2024 voter roll because it is fully aware that its manipulations aimed at favouring the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will be exposed.
National Communications Director of the NDC, Sammy Gyamfi, said even the “reception was very abysmal but that was not surprising” when leadership of the party, as part of its ‘Enough is Enough protest, went to the EC’s head office to submit a petition formally requesting a forensic audit of the voters register.
Sammy Gyamfi told Umaru Sanda Amadu on Eyewitness News on Citi FM that the EC’s chairperson, Jean Mensa, was not present to receive the party’s petition.
“The culture of impunity is just unimaginable and the protesters are simply asking you to conduct an audit on the voter register and Jean Mensa was nowhere to be found and they pushed their poor director of operations, Samuel Tettey to meet us. An issue of this importance demanded that the number one EC chairperson to have been there to meet us.”
The NDC’s National Communications Director also dared the EC to allow an audit to be conducted on the voter register just as its chairperson called for and supported in 2016 if there is nothing to hide.
“She [Jean Mensa] called for an audit of the voters register in 2016 because the NPP at the time was making allegations that there were Togolese on our register so why is she no longer interested in an audit and so if they have nothing to hide, why are they afraid of a simple audit?
“The reason they are running away from accountability is because they know they have manipulated the register and they know an audit will expose them.”
