NDC threatens further action if EC fails to conduct forensic audit of voter register

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced plans to initiate a series of actions against the Electoral Commission (EC) if its demand for a forensic audit of the 2024 voter register is not met.

On Tuesday, September 17, the NDC organized a nationwide protest, titled “Enough is Enough,” across all its regional offices.

The protest was sparked by alleged discrepancies in the provisional voter register, which the party claims to have uncovered after receiving it from the EC.

During the demonstration, the NDC submitted petitions to the EC’s headquarters in Accra and its regional offices, urging the commission to conduct a forensic audit of the voter register to ensure the credibility of the upcoming December 7 general elections.

Speaking with Umaru Sanda Amadu on Eyewitness News on Citi FM, the NDC’s National Communications Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, stated that the party is giving the EC exactly one week to review the petition and respond favourably to their demands.

If the EC fails to act, the NDC will roll out a series of activities aimed at compelling the commission to grant their request for the audit.

“We are giving the EC one week and we hope to hear from them favourably. We hope that their conscience will prick them to do the sensible thing which is to allow for the register to be audited if they have nothing to hide.

“If we do not hear favourably from them in the next one week, the NDC will roll out a series of activities that will be undertaken to compel the Electoral Commission to do the right thing, it is as simple as that.”
