Gomoa West MP stabbed DRIP machine operator during clash

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Gomoa West, Bismark Basie Nkum, has alleged that the Member of Parliament for the area, Richard Gyan Mensah, pulled out a gun and also stabbed a District Road Infrastructure Project (DRIP) equipment operator during a clash.

Supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Monday morning clashed during the commissioning of DRIP equipment in the area.

According to Citi News sources, the conflict began when NDC supporters questioned the decision to display images of Bismark Basie Nkum, who doubles as the NPP’s Gomoa West parliamentary candidate on the DRIP machinery.

Mr. Nkum told Umaru Sanda Amadu on Eyewitness News on Citi FM that the Gomoa West MP drove in the company of his supporters to the commissioning grounds uninvited and pulled out a gun and disrupted the process.

“He [Richard Gyan Mensah] drove in a convoy with his party chairman and other people and courtesy demands that once they had gotten to the programme, they would come and greet the chiefs but that didn’t happen.

“Once the MP came down, he took out a gun and a knife and pierced the ears of the [DRIP] machine operator and I took [the injured machine operator] him to the hospital and later reported the case to the police.

“He was not even invited and he came and caused trouble and the police commander was even at the programme. We have the knife he used and we have given it to the police as evidence.”

Richard Gyan Mensah denied the allegations to Umar Sanda Amadu and accused the NPP of starting the scuffle.

He also described the incident as unfortunate and needless and rendered an apology.

“What happened was unfortunate and it was needless and the reports that I used a gun are not true. I tried to calm the people down and I apologise for what happened. I take part responsibility for what happened.”
