Deputy Minister for Works and Housing, Dr. Prince Hamid Armah, has officially launched the Digital Platform for the Rent Control Department.
Speaking at the launch, Dr. Armah emphasised that the platform rentcontrol.mwh.gov.gh is not merely about unveiling new technology but represents a pivotal moment in enhancing inclusivity and service delivery within the rental housing sector.
“The mandate of the Rent Control Department is of critical importance, to foster peaceful coexistence between landlords and tenants through education, reconciliation, and advocacy,” he stated.
Dr. Armah highlighted the Department’s vital role in ensuring that every Ghanaian has access to safe, adequate, and affordable housing in accordance with the Rent Act 220. He however, noted that outdated manual processes had long hindered this mission, leading to delays and frustrations for both landlords and tenants.
Reflecting on a transformative moment from July 15, 2020, Dr. Armah recounted a visit by the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to the Rent Control Department where he witnessed long queues of citizens seeking essential services—a clear indication of the inefficiencies plaguing the system.
“Many had traveled great distances only to encounter lengthy processes that did not reflect the modern Ghana we are striving to build,” he said adding that, “the Vice President made a commitment to digitise the operations of the Department, aiming to make it more accessible and responsive to the public’s needs.”
Following this promise, Dr. Armah said the Ministry of Works and Housing collaborated with SuperTech Limited, a leading technology solutions provider, to ensure a comprehensive digital transformation.
He announced that Phase I of the project has now been completed, covering the digitalisation of 15 offices across 11 regions.
“This journey has not been without its challenges,” he acknowledged, “but today we celebrate a significant milestone in our commitment to empowering Ghanaians through improved public service,” he added.
Dr. Armah said the launch of the digital platform is expected to revolutionise the way the rent control department operates, ultimately fostering a more efficient and equitable rental housing environment.
