The spokesperson of the Bawumia campaign team, Dennis Miracles Aboagye has said that the Akufo-Addo administration has increased the purchasing power of cocoa frames by up to 100 percent.
He recounted that in 2016, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government was giving the Cocoa farmers, GHc475 for a bag of Cocoa.
Astonishingly, he said, the Nana Akufo-Addo and Dr. Bawumia government is giving the Cocoa farmer, GHc3,000 for the same bag of Cocoa in 2024.
Recenlty, the Government of Ghana announced an increment in the producer price of cocoa by 45% for 2024/25 crop season. Speaking at a press briefing, Minister for Food and Agriculture, Dr. Bryan Acheampong said the cumulative increases for the entire season represent 129.6 percent.
“On September 9, 2023 in Tepa we officially announce the opening of the cocoa season. In between time, we have been offering different prices on the market during trading. The most significant one worth announcing was the increase from GH¢1300 to GH¢2070. So in announcing a new price today, you have to now relate it to what announcement you made at the beginning of your season. At the beginning of last year’s season and the increase now 129.6 percent” he explained.
At the start of the 2023/2024 crop season, a bag of 64kg of cocoa beans was sold at GH¢1,300 and was subsequently increased to GH¢2,070 when the spot price went up on the world market under the same period. For the 2024/2025 crop season, the producer price has been increased to GH¢3,000.
Cumulatively, this represents an increase of 129.6% for the 2024/2025 crop season. By this, the new price for the 2024/2025 season has increased to GH¢3,000 from GH¢2,070 representing 45 percent surge.

Our Cocoa Farmers are able to buy a lot more goods than they could buy in 2016.

With this mind blowing price per bag, the Cocoa farmer is able to buy more bags of cement that they could buy in 2016, more packets of roofing sheets, more bags of rice, more cartons of milk, more gallons of oil.
The Cocoa farmer today, inspite of the rise of prices of basic goods is still able to buy a lot more of these basic needs that they could in 2016 and that is the biggest difference a New Patriotic Party Government brings to bear.
In the midst of global economic crisis, government recognizes the rise in cost of living in the past two years and has been making frantic efforts to boost the buying capacity of the Ghanaian. The government has done this in several ways. Albeit, there’s more room for improvement.
Government apart from providing some critical social interventions in Education, Health and Livelihood empowerment, has made efforts to improve the basic income of the public sector workers and these increases have been very significant over what they earned in 2026.
Today, the salaries of the Doctor, the Teacher, civil servants and Local government workers have been increased. Surely, not at the rate everyone would wish but the efforts can’t be written off, especially as it stays above the rate in inflation.
