Citi FM and Channel One TV win Tourism Oriented Media 2024

Citi FM and Channel One TV have been named the Tourism-Oriented Media of the Year 2024 at the Eastern Regional Tourism Awards, held at the Baca Hotel and Events Center in Koforidua.

This marks the third consecutive win for the station, recognised for its unwavering dedication to promoting tourism and related events through various news platforms.

This consistent achievement is unprecedented in the history of the Eastern Regional Tourism Awards.

Represented in the Eastern Region by correspondent Neil Nii Amatey Kanarku, Citi FM and Channel One TV ensured extensive coverage of all tourism-related activities across radio, TV, online platforms, and social media.

Their in-depth reporting highlighted the challenges and concerns of tourist sites and hoteliers throughout the year, earning them the prestigious accolade once again.

The 2024 Eastern Regional Tourism Awards, themed “Celebrating Innovation and Recognizing Excellence in Ghana’s Tourism Sector,” honoured key players in the industry.

Ghana Tourism Authority CEO, Akwasi Agyeman, commended the award winners, urging them to aim for greater achievements by embracing innovation to drive more patronage and repeat visits in the sector.

“The Eastern Region is boosted by several tourist sites and beautiful hotels, the hospitality industry in the region is expanding every day and due to its unique position in Ghana, a lot of our tourists who visit Ghana are mostly comfortable with the weather, serenity and peace when they visit sites in the region.”

“You have all done marvellously well over the past years but I believe there is more room for improvement and we can all do this if we become very innovative at all times”.

“Government and the authority will continue to support the industry in every way it can to ensure that Ghana becomes the number one tourist destination in Africa, we want the country to come to the list of all tourists anytime they want to come to Africa, we want to be the destination and we know with your support we will achieve that in no time “.

The Chairman for the occasion Nana Twumasi Dankwa the Gyasehene of the New Juaben Traditional Area delivering a speech on behalf of the Omanhene of New Juaben Traditional Area Daasebre Nana Kwaku Boateng III re-echoed the need for all players in the industry to strive for excellence.

“You have all done well, you are all winners because despite the tough situations over the years you all remained steadfast and for that, I congratulate you all. What will set you apart and make people visit your facilities is making a conscious effort to be different from others, excellence is not easy to achieve, it takes a lot of sacrifices and commitments but if you work towards it, and plan appropriately you will definitely attain excellence and that’s when you realize that people will be coming back to you repeatedly so I will urge you all to strive for excellence and you will reap the benefits”.

On her part, the Eastern Regional Manager of the Ghana Tourism Authority Madam Dinah Adu – Owusu expressed satisfaction with the output and appreciated the support of all players in the region for promoting tourism and the Beyond The Return Agenda by the Ministry of Tourism Arts and Culture and the Ghana Tourism Authority.

Linda Dor Restaurant (Main) won the Restaurant Grade 1 for the Year award, Fast Food of the Year went to KFC, Bunso Eco Park won the Visitor Attraction for the Year while Bobby’s Ice Pub won the Pub for the Year and Daily Graphic’s Haruna Wumpini Yussif won the Tourism Media Personality of the Year.

Other winners include the Royal Senchi Hotel and Resort which took home the 4-Star Hotel for the Year, Safari Valley Resort won the Corporate Entity for the Year, and the Budget Hotel for the Year went to G-Unit Plus Hotel in Somanya.
