Founder and President of IMANI Africa, Franklin Cudjoe, has criticized the Electoral Commission (EC), describing its assembly as “pure crass, unbridled incompetence, iconoclast.”

His comments came in reaction to the EC’s recent press conference addressing concerns raised by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) regarding the Provisional Voters Register.

On September 12, 2024, the EC held a press conference to discuss issues arising from the Voter Exhibition Exercise conducted from August 20 to 27, 2024.

Despite the EC’s assurances, the NDC had proposed a forensic audit and re-exhibition of the register.

The EC, however, deemed this unnecessary, stating that the Exhibition Exercise itself serves as an audit.

The EC emphasized that it has the responsibility and capacity to address discrepancies and that the process has been effective since 1992.

In a post on his X handle on September 14, 2024, Franklin Cudjoe expressed his frustration at the EC, stating, “How did the president manage to assemble the current EC commissioners? Pure crass, unbridled incompetence, iconoclast!

“I see many of you shocked at the EC commissioners clownishly outdoing themselves on live TV. We saw through them 6 years ago. You ain’t seen nothing yet. They are just warming up.”

The EC had previously met with the NDC on September 6, 2024, to hear their concerns about the Provisional Voters Register.

The EC acknowledged the discrepancies but assured the NDC that these issues were already being addressed.

The body outlined a four-pronged approach to resolving these issues, involving district electoral officers, exhibition officers, voters, and IT staff.

The EC also addressed concerns about “ghost names” on the register, noting that the Exhibition Exercise allows for the removal of deceased persons’ names.

It further assured the public that most discrepancies have been corrected and that it is committed to providing a robust and credible voter register for the December 2024 General Election.
