Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has raised concerns that politically exposed persons continue to acquire public lands at “ridiculous” prices, despite his ongoing revelations about state capture.

Speaking on TV3’s Key Points on Saturday, September 14, 2024, he emphasized that state capture is a real issue under the current administration.

“Let nobody think state capture is an exaggeration; it is real, and many people are recounting their ordeals. Politically exposed persons are still capturing lands at ridiculous prices,” he said.

He argued that citizens should be able to enjoy their properties in peace and should not face constant harassment, as if living in a “banana republic.”

“Natural resources belong to all of us, citizens must have a right not only to know how their state resources are being managed. Citizens also have the right to enjoy their properties with peace, serenity, and sanctity and they should not be under constant harassment and inundation as though we have become a banana republic where might is right and if you think you have political power then you just take whatever your eyes set upon. That can’t be tolerated, that can’t be a democracy,” he asserted.

Ablakwa expressed his dissatisfaction with the president’s statement on the matter, calling it prejudicial and in bad faith.

“Prime lands, at very jewel locations, are what have come under attack; Cantonments, Labone, Airport etc,” he lamented.
