The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has called on the Electoral Commission (EC) to re-exhibit the voter’s register to allow the public to verify any errors the EC claims to have corrected.
The party’s leadership expressed concerns over discrepancies they discovered in the provisional voter’s register shared by the EC and requested a meeting to discuss these issues.
Although the EC met with the NDC, it downplayed the significance of the discrepancies, stating that such issues are common and typically corrected without the need for a forensic audit, which the NDC had demanded.
The EC maintained that the errors were not serious enough to warrant further investigation.
However, the NDC has announced plans to stage a nationwide protest on Tuesday, September 17, to push the EC to meet their demands for greater transparency.
The party believes that re-exhibiting the voter’s register would help ensure the integrity of the upcoming election.
The NDC’s Deputy Director of Elections and IT, Tanko Rashid-Computer, reiterated in an interview on Citi FM on Friday, September 13, that re-exhibiting the register should be a straightforward process for the EC.
He emphasised that doing so would help reinforce the credibility of the 2024 elections.
“We are calling for a forensic audit and a re-exhibition of the voter’s register that they are saying they have corrected because we cannot trust them holding this data till December 7. That register should be re-exhibited so that everybody will be satisfied that this data is correct,” he stated.
