Brussels Diamond League: Kenny Bednarek stuns Letsile Tebogo to clinch 200m crown

American sprinter Kenny Bednarek blazed to a 19.67s finish in the final of the men’s 200m final in the Brussels Diamond League meet, leaving Olympic champion Letsile Tebogo in his wake.

Tebogo was hands on favourite to nick the Diamond League 200m crown after impressing all season and running jaw-dropping times across the various Diamond League meets.

However, it was the 2022 champion Bednarek who reclaimed his crown, getting out strongly from the blocks, holding off Tebogo at the bend, and flying off the home straight.

The 200m Olympic gold medalist, Tebogo, clocked 19.80s to take second, while Dominican Republic’s Alexander Ogando’s fine form all season continued with a third-place finish in 19.97s.

Bednarek’s countryman, Kerley, who placed third in the men’s 100m final on Friday, crossed the finish line in 20.21s, as did Courtney Lindsey.

Liberia’s Joseph Fahnbulleh (one of two African’s in the final, alongside Botswana’s Tebogo) was good enough for seventh with a 20.53s finish.
