Bawumia will make galamsey unattractive for the youth – Salam Mustapha

The National Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Salam Mustapha, has stated that a government led by Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia would make illegal mining, commonly known as “galamsey,” less appealing to the youth.

Speaking at a press conference in Bolgatanga, in the Upper East Region, Mustapha outlined Bawumia’s vision to tackle illegal mining by creating alternative job opportunities and streamlining processes within the formal mining sector.

“A new area that will open up and bring in more jobs is the mining sector which will witness new arrangements and simplification. The new bank to be set up for the mining sector will help Ghanaians acquire their own machines and a new registration regime with just a Ghana Card will help cut down the galamsey menace.”

“It will birth a new dawn for mining in Ghana. This will be well-regulated and reduce illegal mining. He (Bawumia) will make Galamsey unattractive for the youth with his plans for responsible mining,” he stated.

According to Mustapha, a Bawumia-led administration will train one million youth in digital skills such as coding, software development, and web development, allowing them to fully benefit from the fourth industrial revolution. These digital skills will provide youth with viable alternatives to illegal mining.

Mustapha emphasised Dr Bawumia’s credibility, citing his strong track record as Vice President.

He assured that Bawumia would put up a stellar performance as President, ensuring that responsible mining becomes a reality in Ghana.
