Senior Advisor to the Bawumia Campaign team, Ing. Kwabena Agyapong, has admonished members and the leadership of the opposition party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) against the character of slandering their fellow politicians at any given opportunity when they are in opposition.
Kwabena Agyapong, who is a former General Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), stated that, the numerous insults unleashed on Politicians, describing them as thieves, is unfounded, hence should be halted as a matter of urgency.
According to him, the current National Chairman of the NDC, who, in 2017, was the General Secretary of the party, should largely be blamed for issuing such a dishonourable description to politicians.
Speaking on Wednesday’s edition of Peace FM’s ‘kokrokoo’ morning show, Mr. Agyapong said, “that kind of respect given to politicians has been lost on us and I blame no other person than Asiedu Nketia. I told him in 2007 that the 17 thieves you are describing the NPP Presidential aspirants will one day come back to hit us in the face because you are reducing the respect that people have for political authority.”
He added that, the impact of the statement made by Johnson Asiedu Nketia lingers on up till this point where any young person sit on social media and television sets to use indecent words in describing the Ghanaian politician, mostly, referring to them as thieves.
“The fact you are opposition shouldn’t give you the right to slash and burn, as done by farmers,” he advised.
Mr. Agyapong, who was one of the Presidential aspirants of the NPP but lost to the incumbent flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, noted that, Ghanaians have the propensity to destroy their opponent, which, according to Mr. Agyapong, sets a bad and negative precedence for the younger generations who would want to take up the responsibility of becoming politicians someday.
In relation to the upcoming December 7 general elections, Mr. Kwabena Agyapong urged all Ghanaian to eschew fear, assuring them of total peace and safety during the elections, adding that, political parties and individuals who are propagating fear amongst the people should desist from doing that.
“Nothing will happen in this election. All that is required of every Ghanaian who has attained the age of voting and has registered with the Electoral Commission, is to form your queue on Election Day; cast your vote and leave the voting arena to your various homes safely.”
“Let us stop propagating amongst our people. We should not go down that lane,” he emphasised.
