“You Goofed Big Time”- Kabila Tells NAPO Over “Not Even Your Kwame Nkrumah” Comment | Politics

James Kwabena Bomfeh Jnr., has censured his friend and senior, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the running mate for the New Patriotic Party over his comments about the achievements of President Akufo Addo surpassing that of Ghana’s first President, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.

Dr. Bomfeh, popularly called Kabila, posited that NAPO “goofed” reloative to that particular comment during his unveiling at the Jubilee Park, in the Ashanti region.

To him, it was denigrating and sent a “wrong signal to the persona and the great achievements of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.”

Contributing to a panel discussion on PeaceFM’s “Kokrokoo” Morning Show, the former Convention People’s Party (CPP) General Secretary believed while President Akufo Addo has made significant contributions to the growth of the economy in terms of infrastructure by making great significant strides in the education and health sector, as well as impactful social interventions, the platform the NPP Running Mate used to tout the credentials of the current president was inappropriate.

“He should not have made that statement, simply because he wouldn’t have had time to explain to the audience what he meant by the statement he made that Akufo Addo’s achievements surpasses that of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah. I believe that what added salt to injury was his comment of “your Kwame Nkrumah” which sends a wrong signal to the persona and the great achievements of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.”

“I want him to know and understand that, we don’t undermine Kwame Nkrumah. Admittedly, Kwame Nkrumah wasn’t a perfect human being, but he was able to lead Ghana to gain our Freedom, thereby making Ghana the first Country in sub-Sahara Africa to gain independence from colonial rulers. Beyond his great works, he has also penned down lots of articles and books more than any other President in the history of Ghana, intellectually contributing to the development of the minds of Ghanaians and the world at large, especially among the black race and the suffering people around the world. “

“Senior NAPO, I am saying this to your understanding that, if you listen to the advice given to you by Otumfour Osei Tutu II, it will help all of us. From now till the elections is held, you must be guided by Nana Kwabena Nketiah’s words “let us avoid making mistakes and repeating mistakes must be your clarion attention,” Dr Bomfeh Jnr stated.

Kabila’s admonishing comes on the heels of a controversial statement made by Dr. Opoku Prempeh in Kumasi during his unveiling on July 9, 2024.

During his speech, NAPO boldly stated; “Since independence from 1957 till today, we’ve not had any president that has helped Ghana like Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. I say from 1957 till today, you can bring your Kwame Nkrumah… no president has protected Ghana and moved the country forward like Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.” 

This statement sparked widespread reactions, with several members of the public expressing outrage and disbelief since they consider it as an insult to the memory of the graet statesman.
