Galamsey: Publish names and pictures of all operators

The Private Newspapers and Online News Publishers Association of Ghana (PRINPAG) has launched an initiative to combat illegal mining activities, known as ‘galamsey’, by exposing perpetrators through a “name and shame” campaign.

In a statement dated Tuesday, September 10, 2024, PRINPAG condemned galamsey as a grave threat to the well-being of Ghanaians and called on Parliament to take decisive action against the menace.

The Association urged its members to publish names and pictures of individuals and groups involved in galamsey on the front pages of their newspapers and websites.

PRINPAG warned that members found complicit in galamsey will face severe consequences, including removal from the Association and legal action.

The statement emphasised the need for unity and focus to win the fight against galamsey, citing the example of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

The Association encouraged its members to resist any form of influence that could compromise their efforts and emphasised the need for unity and focus to win the fight against galamsey.
