We will do everything to ensure a peaceful, transparent election – Akufo-Addo

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has emphasized that the current government under his leadership would work tirelessly to ensure that the upcoming election on December 7 is peaceful, transparent, and fair.

The President who was speaking at the Annual Bar Conference in Kumasi charged stakeholders in the electoral process to do their part to make the country consolidate its democratic gains since it returned to constitutional over thirty years ago.

While urging key stakeholders including the media, civil society organizations, and the citizenry to uphold the standards of integrity, the president pledged “The Akufo-Addo government on its part will do everything within its power to ensure that upcoming elections are conducted in an environment of peace, fairness and transparency.”

President Akufo-Addo’s commitment comes amidst claims by some members of the opposition that the ruling party had been scheming to rig the 2024 presidential election.

He encouraged the Electoral Commission to play its “critical role” by acting with “impartiality, independence and integrity” as it seeks to run an election fair to all in the political spectrum.

President Akufo-Addo highlighted the Electoral Commission’s role as the sole body mandated to declare election results in the country and admonished political parties not to declare results before the constitutionally charged institution.

He explained that such an act could lead to uncertainty and confusion among the population.

“Political parties must refrain from declaring results before the Electoral Commission does so as this could lead to confusion, misinformation, and even potential conflict,” the president advised.

Mr. Akufo-Addo noted that the EC had the responsibility to “uphold the will of the people”.
