The Incumbent Member of Parliament for the Hohoe constituency in the Volta Region, John Peter Amewu, has sent shockwaves through the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) with his bold declaration of sweeping 64% of the votes in the upcoming December polls.
The Minister for Railway Development Peter Amewu, who is seeking re-election, made this statement while filing his nomination forms at the Electoral Commission office in Hohoe, surrounded by thousands of his supporters.
The crowd, which included government appointees, NPP constituency and regional executives, was in a jubilant mood, chanting songs composed with Amewu’s name as they marched through the streets.
This is not the first time Peter Amewu has shaken the NDC in Hohoe.
In the 2020 parliamentary elections, he made history by defeating the NDC’s Professor Margaret Kweku, ending the party’s 28-year hold on the seat.
Peter Amewu won the election with 26,952 votes against Kweku’s 21,821.
Amewu’s confidence in winning the upcoming election is not unfounded.
He has been working tirelessly to develop the constituency, and his efforts have not gone unnoticed.
The people of Hohoe have seen significant improvements in their lives, and Amewu is determined to continue his development agenda if re-elected.
“I told you that it is not everybody who will benefit during the first four years. Some people will have their share in the morning, others in the afternoon, and the rest in the evening. Today in Hohoe, we have gone beyond development, so 1725969859 it is our personal development,” Amewu said.
The NDC, on the other hand, is gripped with fear. The party is still reeling from its defeat in the 2020 elections, and Amewu’s declaration has sent panic waves through its ranks.
The party knows that it will be an uphill task to defeat Amewu, who has become a household name in Hohoe.
As the campaign season heats up, Amewu is expected to face stiff competition from the NDC.
However, his confidence and the support of his constituents make him the favorite to win.
The people of Hohoe are eager to see what the future holds, and Amewu is determined to deliver.
“Today, Hohoe is small London, in the next four years, Hohoe will be New York. I am not going to disappoint any of you. So, in the next four years, it is round two for JP,” Amewu declared.
