Election 2024: Address NDC concerns on Peace Pact

The Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA) has emphasised the need for authorities to address concerns raised by political parties before signing a peace pact.

This follows the National Democratic Congress (NDC) decision to withhold commitment to any peace pact until certain conditions are met.

Speaking at a public forum in Accra, MFWA Executive Director Sulemana Braimah stressed that while peace is essential for effective governance, it should not come at the expense of addressing legitimate concerns.

“Well, I think first of all peace is the number one thing that as a country we should yearn for. I think that no government can govern effectively if there is no peace. To be able to govern effectively, the country must be peaceful.

“And so peace for me is a fundamental prerequisite. And all political parties that are endeavouring to lead this country must commit.

“Of course, if the NDC has raised several issues to be addressed, it is important for stakeholders to look into them. We shouldn’t also say that because we want peace if things are not being done right at the end of the day we should just sign a peace pact”
