Ghanaian musician Worlasi has opened up about the financial difficulties faced by young people in Ghana, particularly when it comes to major life events like marriage.

According to him, many young people, including him, can’t afford to get married due to economic hardships.

In an interview with 3FM on August 21, 2024, Worlasi said that there is a lack of supportive financial institutions that make it easier for individuals to make significant purchases to support a family.

“I’m telling you right now, I can’t afford to get married… There are no institutions that have made it easy for people to buy things,” he stated.

He compared the situation to that in the Caribbean country of Antigua, noting that, “They probably don’t even have mobile money. Their lights go off like ours too. But they have a system where, if you are working, no matter what work you are doing, you can buy something and pay little by little.”

Worlasi’s comments come amid the public’s dissatisfaction with the current state of governance and demands for change and accountability from leaders.

Various protests have been held in the country over economic hardship, cost of living, abuse of power, corruption, and poor infrastructure.
