Dr. Abu Bonsra of the Global-South Health and Relief Agency (GHARA) has commended the Chief Executive Officer of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Dr. Da-Costa Aboagye, for leading the National Health Insurance Authority to make significant progress and stride.

According to him, it appears the “voices that matter” have kept mute.

The Authority has recently released an amount of GHC151 million to healthcare providers across the country, and this is even a supplementary disbursement of earlier disbursements that also didn’t catch public attention.

Dr. Abu Bonsra said it is surprising that the opposition, particularly the NDC and the minority caucus in parliament, have refused to speak of this recent development, especially when some months back they were accusing and bashing the government of collapsing the scheme.

In a statement, he stated that he was looking forward to hearing the NDC and the Minority acknowledge the leadership of the NHIS when they are working hard to achieve their aim.

“At least I was expecting them to be honest and sincere enough to acknowledge the fact that the scheme is doing extremely well to live up to its responsibilities, which include committing to the sustainability and efficiency of healthcare delivery in the country.

“Well-meaning Ghanaians and professionals like some of us will not look on the politicians to politicise such important issues. It is therefore incumbent on us to commend when necessary, and also condemn when need be. It is on this basis that I commend the current leadership of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), specifically, its CEO, Dr Da-Costa Aboagye, for this good job,” Dr. Abu Bonsa stated.
