The parliamentary candidate for Manhyia South on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, has described the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress, John Mahama’s 24-hour economy policy, as a “poor policy.”
According to him, the policy is not feasible as it lacks the fundamentals needed to sustain its implementation in Ghana.
Speaking in an interview on Kumasi-based television station, Sompa TV, Baffour Awuah explained that the policy would not solve any economic problems but rather worsen conditions for businesses in Ghana.
“The 24-hour economy, as promulgated by the NDC in itself, is a poor policy.” It doesn’t solve an economic problem,” the legal practitioner said.
He continued that cities such as Dubai and other advanced economies have the right frameworks and economic conditions to sustain a 24-hour economy.
“It wouldn’t even make any economic sense to provide incentives, as businesses will eventually run into losses. There is no demand to meet the increased production capacities that come with a 24-hour economy.
“The purchasing power of Ghanaians is not enough to warrant the creation of a 24-hour economy”,” he noted.
Baffour Awuah chided the former president for having failed to properly examine Ghana’s economic situation.
He said: “With his political experience, he is expected to demonstrate a better understanding of Ghana’s developmental needs. Unfortunately, that hasn’t been the case. He could have exhausted the 8 years of being in opposition to properly examine our developmental challenges and propose pragmatic solutions to them.”
He, therefore, urged Ghanaians not to be swayed by the promises of the NDC, asserting that the NPP offered bold and pragmatic solutions that would transform Ghana. He encouraged Ghanaians to vote overwhelmingly for Dr. Bawumia and the NPP in the December 7 general election.
