Another suit filed against COP Yohuno’s appointment as Deputy IGP –

Emmanuel Felix Mantey has filed a lawsuit challenging the appointment of Commissioner of Police (COP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno as the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Operations.

On Wednesday, July 17, 2024, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo appointed COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno to the role, according to a report by 3news.com.

The decision, endorsed by the Police Council, was announced in a statement signed by Eugene Arhin, Director of Communications at the Presidency, which highlighted COP Yohuno’s exceptional credentials and dedication to duty.

In a writ filed at the High Court on Thursday, August 1, Mantey seeks a court order prohibiting COP Yohuno from assuming the position of Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Operations.

He also asks the court to restrain the Attorney General and the Police Council from taking any further actions to implement COP Yohuno’s appointment.

Mantey is seeking an “order of judicial review” for the following reliefs:

a. An order of prohibition restraining COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno from acting or purporting to act in the role of Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Operations.

b. An order of prohibition restraining the respondents from carrying out any actions in furtherance of the appointment of COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno to this role.

This lawsuit follows a similar suit filed by private legal practitioner Justice Abdulai on July 30 against the Attorney General and the Police Council, also challenging the recent appointment of COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno.
