Ghana to adopt agricultural practices of Brazil, China under my leadership – Bawumia –

Flagbearer for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has outlined his vision for agriculture in Ghana.

He indicates that the country will adopt best practices from Brazil and China to help increase and improve yield and productivity.

“I want to help our farmers. Farming is the key to bringing food prices down. We are going to help farmers increase productivity. If you go to Brazil, an acre of land with maize can give you ten tons; in China, an acre of land can give you 12 tons; but in Ghana, it can give you just 4 tonnes. I’m going to apply the practices that we are seeing that have worked in Brazil and China in the Wa East District to increase productivity.

We are going to establish super aggregators who will come and buy the produce from the farmers so that the food does not go to waste and they can get good prices for their goods. We are going to help farmers with tractors and credit. We are going to move away from the normal fertilizer to lime. Lime makes our soils very fertile and we have lime in Ghana so we are going to help our farmers use lime,” he said while addressing a charged crowd in the Wa East District.

He continued, “We are going to help our mothers who are trading, who are fishing. We want to provide them with small loans so that our mother can also do business and get money to look after their children”.
