Value-for-money audit was done on GHS 339m stalled National Cathedral project-Ministry of Finance –

The Minister of State at the Finance Ministry, Abena Osei Asare, informed Parliament that GH₵339 million has been allocated for the National Cathedral project.

She stated that this funding was provided by the Ministry to ensure the project had the necessary financial support.

Addressing Parliament on July 3, Ms Asare explained, “From the onset, the Ministry of Finance mentioned that our contribution to the National Cathedral would be the land and some seed money, and this was included in the previous year’s budget.”

Despite the project being stalled for months and still at the foundation level, she assured Parliament that a value-for-money audit had been conducted in 2021.

Additionally, she mentioned that Deloitte Ghana began a statutory audit of the National Cathedral of Ghana’s accounts in July 2023, which is ongoing.

“The auditors have concluded the audit for the 18 months ending December 31, 2020. Preparations are underway for the auditors to complete the remaining accounts for the years ending December 31, 2021, 2022, and 2023,” she said.

Madam Asare emphasized the transparency of the process, stating that records are available showing the expenditures for the project.
