Striking CLOGSAG members boycott NLC meeting

The leadership of the Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG), failed to attend a meeting with the government and the National Labour Commission after being summoned to address their concerns.

The association initiated an industrial action due to the government’s failure to implement a proposed new salary structure approved by the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission, despite a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) reached one and a half years ago.

Speaking to the media, the Executive Secretary of the Commission, Ofosu Asamoah, described their actions as contemptuous. He has ordered all parties involved to reconvene again on Wednesday, July 10, 2024.

“It’s an unfortunate development and I think that is contemptuous of the commission, because especially the case where this meeting was summoned at their instance. In any case, as the commission, we are not part of whatever they are doing there, but whatever development that has happened there that has occasioned the staff of CLOGSAG to threaten and to proceed on strike is what the commission is interested and would what want to have it settled. So we invited them today, to have it settled.”

“We heard on air that they were considering whether to come or not but since there is no official correspondence to us, we have come. The meeting was scheduled for 2 pm, the deputy minister of employment was here, the technical advisor to the minister Hon. Wireko-Brobby was here, and the head of Fare Wages and Salaries Commission, Engineer Ben Arthur was here, unfortunately, CLOGSAG did not attend.
