I was thrown out of my official bungalow, my things thrown in the streets

Nana Yaa Jantuah, the former Director of Public Relations and External Affairs at the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC), has shared a harrowing account of how she was forcibly evicted from her official residence in 2017, amidst allegations of corruption that led to her departure from the commission.

During an interview with Umaru Sanda Amadu, on Face to Face on Channel One TV, Nana Yaa Jantuah poignantly recalled how her son was confined in her erstwhile official bungalow, even after her personal belongings had been callously ejected.

She stated her resolve not to pursue legal action against the state but to focus on the blessings and divine favour she has received.

“No, it’s not necessary, God has done so much, he has avenged me in so many ways. I have no interest [in suing]. It’s even good that I left… I was thrown out of my official bungalow; my things were thrown out in the streets.

“Yes, my son was locked in the building and all that,” she recounted.

Nana Yaa Jantuah stated that she harbours no regrets over her decision to work for the state, despite the challenges she faced.

“No, I have not regretted [working at the public service], I contributed, I love Ghana, I love Ghanaians, I love everything Ghanaian. As a young person, I didn’t even want to travel even when the opportunity to travel outside Ghana was there,” She intimated.

Background

On May 12, 2017 Nana Yaa Jantuah and Samuel Sarpong, Executive Secretary of the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC), were summoned by the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) for questioning regarding alleged financial malfeasance. They were released on bail the following day.

Sarpong was interrogated about the alleged transfer of GH¢435,087 from PURC funds into his accounts, while Jantuah was questioned about her reported use of GH¢120,000 in PURC funds to purchase 350 Christmas hampers.
