CLOGSAG commences nationwide strike today

Administrative activities at all civil and local government offices will come to a halt today [Wednesday, June 3] as the Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG), has announced a nationwide strike.

The association’s decision is in response to the government’s failure to implement a new salary structure that was agreed upon over a year ago.

Despite approval from the Minister of Employment and Labour Relations and the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission, the agreed-upon structure remains unimplemented.

The Public Relations Officer for CLOGSAG, Eddie Acquaye, said the government is to blame for the impact of their action.

“As a union, we have been doing this ever since we have been in existence. We have always been law-abiding. Before we gave this strike announcement, we had already gone into a number of meetings with all the stakeholders that were necessary for the implementation of this particular structure.

“Yet, we never saw any green light. Three weeks ago, we had to do what was right by writing to the National Labour Commission, notifying them of the intention of our strike, thinking that we were going to do the right thing so we are on strike.
