Akufo-Addo nominates Herbert Krapa as Minister of State for Energy Ministry –

President Akufo-Addo has submitted a letter to Parliament nominating Herbert Krapa, the current Deputy Minister for Energy, as the Minister of State at the Energy Ministry. The letter has been forwarded to the Appointments Committee in Parliament for review.

This nomination comes after the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, officially put forward the name of the Minister for Energy and Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (NAPO), as his chosen running mate for the upcoming 2024 elections.

According to a report by Joy News, the NPP flagbearer introduced NAPO to the National Executives of the party on Monday, July 1, 2024, at the party’s headquarters in Accra.

Earlier that day, the Vice President also met with the Majority Caucus of Parliament to formally announce his decision to select the Energy Minister as the party’s vice-presidential candidate.

In an interview with Joy News, the Deputy General Secretary of the NPP, Haruna Mohammed, confirmed that the Vice President had presented NAPO as his running mate to the National Executives.

He mentioned that the next step is for the National Executive Council of the party to approve NAPO’s nomination.

“Indeed, His Excellency, the Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, and the incoming President for the Republic of Ghana on January 7, 2025, visited the national headquarters of the New Patriotic Party to officially present the name to us, which is part of the process of nominating and confirming the running mate to the New Patriotic Party’s flagbearer.

“So, we’ve received it, and the General Secretary, in consultation with the National Chairman, has issued an invitation for a National Council meeting, which is the appropriate body to determine the suitability of this submitted name,” he explained.

The party announced that an emergency meeting is set for July 4 to make the final decision.
