Use your CSR dimensions to contribute to SDGs – Prof. Kofi Amoako –

Professor George Kofi Amoako, a renowned leading marketing guru and consultant has sounded a clarion call for Corporate Entities, Public Sector Agencies(PSA), and Multinational Enterprises(MNEs) to use their CSR Dimensions to contribute significantly to the advancement of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by all members of the United Nations in 2015.

According to Professor Amoako, many companies are implementing CSR and CSI activities without paying significant attention to environmental protection and the Sustainable Development Goals. This oversight has created a substantial gap that requires the attention of all stakeholders in the corporate world, industries, professional bodies, and academia.

Professor Amoako stated that if multinational enterprises and PSAs do not align their respective CSR and CSI activities, it would be extremely difficult to achieve all 17 World Sustainable Development Goals by the 2030 deadline.

From April 2023 to May 2024, Professor Amoako led a team of renowned researchers to investigate Corporate Social Responsibility and brand performance in Ghana, with a sample size of 1,106. The research findings, based on data collected from 1,106 firms involved in telecommunications activities in Ghana, revealed that brand knowledge positively impacts organizational brand value. Additionally, Environmental Corporate Social Responsibility and Ethical Corporate Social Responsibility were positively related to brand knowledge and brand loyalty. Social CSR was also positively related to brand knowledge and organizational brand value. This research was instrumental in understanding how CSR dimensions significantly affect brand performance across multiple industries.

Professor Amoako urges Corporate Ghana to offer cutting-edge training programs for their employees on CSR and CSI, enabling them to utilize their acquired skills and knowledge to help their institutions and corporate entities realign their CSR activities or Corporate Social Investments in line with the Sustainable Development Goals.

According to Professor Amoako, if all Corporate Entities, PSAs, and MNEs fully utilize CSR dimensions, they will greatly enhance their brand performance, attract and retain more customers, improve their revenue generation capabilities, and simultaneously help society preserve and protect the environment.

Before joining academia, Professor Amoako worked in the industry for several years, amassing over 30 years of diverse experience in industry, consulting, and university-level teaching. He previously worked with prestigious companies such as Mechanical Lloyd and Fan Milk Ghana Limited.

In consultancy and training services, Professor Amoako has consulted and conducted training for many public and private multinational companies and organizations, including the Bank of Ghana, Ghana Insurance Commission, Ghana Ports and Harbour Authority, Ghana Civil Aviation Authority, British Council, and several others.

Professor George Kofi Amoako is a Full Professor of Marketing and currently serves as the Director of Research, Innovation, and Consultancy at the Ghana Communication Technology University. He has proven expertise and a track record in consultancy services, corporate training, and the delivery and implementation of marketing strategies and projects.

In 2015, Professor Amoako was awarded the Top Africa CSR Award in Mauritius for his publications in Corporate Social Responsibility. He is ranked among the top 4 marketing scholars in Ghana and the top 3% in Africa, according to the AD Scientific Index for 2024.

In 2023, the Durban University of Technology in South Africa conferred an Honorary Full Professorship in Marketing on Professor George Kofi Amoako for his strategic marketing brilliance and significant impact on the field of marketing in Africa and beyond.

Professor Amoako’s main research focus areas include sustainability, marketing, branding, business strategy, corporate social responsibility, and environmental conservation.

He has completed over 30 national assignments for the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) in the past five years.

Finally, Professor Amoako urges Corporate Ghana, especially the mining and petroleum industries, to significantly review and realign their respective CSR and CSI activities so that, collectively, we can protect and preserve the environment and the social well-being of the people.
