Speak out and seek accountability – Edem Agbana to unperturbed Ghanaian youth –

Parliamentary Candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the Ketu North Constituency, Edem Agbana has urged the youth of Ghana to speak up and seek accountability from those in government.

He believes that you don’t need to be a politician to seek accountability from the people who have been put in places of power.

To Edem Agbana, the silence of the youth is an endorsement of the ineptitude, corruption and abuse of power.

“You don’t need to be NDC or NPP to demand accountability from leadership , but you must always speak out against the ills of the system,” he said.

Dear Young People,

It is trite knowledge that our democracy has failed to deliver our expectations . I understand the growing mistrust for our institutions, and the loss of confidence in our political systems.

Undoubtedly, the situation has been exacerbated by the failure of the Akufo Addo government to deliver on it’s mouthwatering promises prior to the 2016 elections. There is Hopelessness and Despair all over.

Sadly, even the judiciary has lost it completely. We can’t trust the Judiciary to give us justice. Several surveys have confirmed the plummeting confidence in judiciary.

BUT hey, the solution is not in ‘sitting on the fence’. You can’t sit on the fence and expect a few people to fight for the change you seek. We must all get involved.

Our National Youth anthem rightly captures it with the phrase “We are all involved in building our motherland”.

Bill Maher profoundly said “Freedom isn’t free. It shouldn’t be a bragging point that “Oh, I don’t get involved in politics,” as if that makes you somehow cleaner. No, that makes you derelict of duty in a republic. Liars and panderers in government would have a much harder time of it if so many people didn’t insist on their right to remain ignorant and blindly agreeable.” .

Every morning, I pray for the president and his cabinet. I pray for them to succeed because that’s what my bible instructs me to do in 1 Timothy 2:1-2. When Ghana succeeds, I succeed to.

However, patriotism does not mean loyalty to the government, it is loyalty to the country. When the government of the day becomes the biggest problem for the state,we must all become activists and speak against the ills of the state.

Occasionally, I have disagreed with the likes of Manasseh Azure AwuniOsagyefo Oliver Barker-VormaworYaw Gyampo on some national issues but the truth is, we need more of their ilk to demand accountability from the system.

You don’t need to be NDC or NPP to demand accountability from leadership , but you must always speak out against the ills of the system.

My youth, your silence is an endorsement of the ineptitude, corruption and abuse of power. SPEAK OUT !!!

Have a blessed week.
