CID boss urged to expedite investigations into Akonta Mining Limited’s Operations –

Martin Luther Kpebu, a private legal practitioner has called the Director General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service, COP Faustina Agyeiwaa Kodua Andoh-Kwofie,  to expedite investigations into the activities of Akonta Mining Limited in the Tano Nimiri Forest Reserve.

The company, owned by Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Wontumi, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Ashanti Regional Chairman, has been operating in the forest without a valid mining concession lease.

The Lands and Natural Resources Ministry, along with the Minerals Commission, disclosed the lack of a mining concession lease for Akonta Mining Limited.

Despite reporting the matter to the CID for investigation, little progress has been made over the past year and a half, prompting an outcry for swift action.

Speaking on TV3’s KeyPoints, Martin Luther Kpebu, a private legal practitioner and one of the petitioners, expressed frustration over the lack of progress in the investigation.

“We reported Chairman Wontumi to the CID. Abu Jinapor, Minister for Lands and Natural Resources said that Chairman Wontumi did not have a mining lease. CEO of Minerals Commission, Martin Ayisi, says Chairman Wontumi did not have a mining lease yet when he entered the Tano Nimiri Forest and to date, Madam Faustina Andoh-Kwofie, CID Boss is playing games with the case,” he said.

He also called for investigations into other matters, including the PDS scandal involving Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and the fumigation of schools under President Akufo-Addo’s administration transparency continues.
