‘Courageous’ Manhyia NDC organizer breaks down in Court; weeps and begs –

The Manhyia South Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Alhaji Mustapha charged for threat of violence and death Alhassan shed tears in court and pleaded for mercy. 

The NDC Executive who has been charged with threat of death against Ghana’s Electoral Commissioner and all members of the New Patriotic Party(NPP) at the Kumasi Circuit Court KMA could not hold back his tears as the court pondered whether to grant him bail or remand him. 

If convicted, he faces more than 10 years in prison.

The state represented by Prosecutor ASP Emelia Owusu Ansah who is Head of Legal and Prosecution Unit of the Ashanti Region strongly opposed bail for Alhaji Mustapha Alhassan. 

Counsel for the accused Evans Amankwah prayed the court to consider he is not a flight risk to grant him bail. 

At a point when it appeared as if the ruling on the bail may not favour him, the accused burst out in tears. 

The Judge, His Honour Abdul-Razak Musah granted bail in the sum of GH¢ 100,000 with 2 sureties to be justified. 

The court advised persons including public officials to be circumspect in their utterances in this electoral season to safeguard the peace of the country. 

Alhaji Mustapha Alhasan was said to have been captured in a video angrily daring the New Patriotic Party to rig the elections, threatening to engage the NPP in a battle even if it comes to killing each other to defend the victory of his party’s flagbearer, former President John Dramani Mahama.

Alhaji Mustapha Alhassan was summoned by the police after the video went viral on social media.

He reported himself to the police and provided a statement and was granted bail, with instructions to report to the police on Monday, February 26, 2024.
