Ministerial Nominees Reject Akufo-Addo’s Appointment

President Nana Akufo-Addo

Latest development coming from Jubilee House with regards to the ministerial appointments by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo says some of the ministerial nominees have rejected the offer to serve in the administration, citing various reasons, including focusing on their parliamentary contests.

This comes as President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo plans a major cabinet reshuffle to strengthen his party’s position ahead of the upcoming December elections.

According to Jubilee House sources, some of the nominees after meeting the president with high anticipation, politely told him that they cannot take on the offer to the disappointment of the appointing authority.

Some of them though interested in serving in the government, the portfolios being offered to them are not exciting leading to the outright rejection.

In a surprise move, there is serious expectation of a Valentine’s Day shakeup in the cabinet, bearing any last minute changes, with the removal of controversial Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta. This decision has raised eyebrows among political observers, given Ofori-Atta’s prominent role in the government.

The reshuffle will also see the appointment of new ministers, most of whom had already met with President Akufo-Addo at the Jubilee House for a briefing.

The names of the new ministers are likely to be made public on Wednesday, February 14, 2024.

One notable appointment in the reshuffle is the new Greater Accra Regional Minister, Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus-Glover, who will be replacing Henry Quartey. Titus-Glover’s selection is seen as a strategic move to boost regional development efforts in the area.

Dr. Mohammed Adam Amin Anta, the MP for Karaga and current Minister of State at the Finance Ministry, will replace Ken Ofori-Atta as the Minister of Finance designate. Adam’s extensive experience in the oil, gas, and financial sectors is expected to contribute to the government’s commitment to economic stability and growth.

Other notable appointments include Lydia Alhassan as the new Sanitation and Water Resources Minister, Andrew Egyepa Mercer as the Minister of Tourism, Henry Quartey as the Interior Minister Designate, and Ophelia Mensah Hayford as the Minister for Environment Science, Technology and Innovation.

President Akufo-Addo’s cabinet reshuffle aims to ensure efficient and competent governance. The new ministers are expected to bring fresh perspectives, expertise, and drive to their respective roles, further advancing the government’s agenda for progress and prosperity.

Ghanaians are eagerly anticipating the implementation of new policies and initiatives under the reconfigured cabinet, as the reshuffle generates a mix of excitement and anticipation.
