28-year-old Concrete Machine operator jailed 15 years for defiling minor –

A   28-year-old Concrete Machine operator has been jailed 15 years in hard labour for defiling a minor at Techimantia in the Ahafo Region.

Douglas Kwakye was found guilty of defilement contrary to section 101 of the criminal offenses ACT 29(1960) and handed a 15-year jail term by the Duayaw Nkwanta Circuit Court Presided over by Her Lordship, Akosua Antwiwaa Darling.

In pronouncing judgment, the trial judge said she took into consideration the upsurge of sexual offenses in the area but was however mindful of the age of the accused person and the fact that he’s a first-time offender.

Presenting the facts of the case, Detective Chief Inspector Mawuli Owusu-Agbe revealed that both the suspect and complainant are residents of Techimantia. That on August 6, 2023, the victim who is a year and seven months old went into the uncle’s room to play and met the accused who was relaxed in a sofa while the uncle was asleep. Few minutes later, the victim emerged from the room crying with blood all over her thighs.

The complainant became alarmed and directed a witness in the case to call the uncle while she prepared the victim for the hospital. The witness said she met the uncle of the victim fast asleep while the suspect was relaxed on the sofa.

An official complaint was lodged with the police and a medical form was issued for the treatment of the victim at the Techimantia Hospital. The Medical Superintendent in his findings confirmed “anal laceration at the 11 o clock (posteriorly) of about 2 cm in length and 0.5 cm depth. There are other superficial lacerations all over the anal canal. Noted oozing of blood from the rectum. Impression – sexual assault(sodomy).

The accused person was subsequently arrested and during investigations, admitted the offence in his caution statement but was quick to blame the devil. He was subsequently charged for the offence and found guilty after full trial.

The prosecutor after the conviction on Friday, February 9, 2024, described the ruling as fantastic and justice for little Serwaa.
