The Two (2) Retired Police Commissioners of the Ghana Police Service who contested in the New Patriotic Party(NPP) Parliamentary Primaries in the Ashanti Region have both lost their bids.
COP(retired) George Alex Mensah and COP(Retired) George Tuffuor were cleared by the party’s vetting committee to contest in the polls slated for January 27, 2024.
Whereas COP(retired) George Alex Mensah contested in the Bekwai Constituency and is one on the ballot out of the four aspirants, COP(Retired) George Tuffuor contested in Atwima Nwabiagya South Constituency and came up against the incumbent Hon Emmanuel Agyei Anhwere and two others.
At the end of polls, George Alex Mensah who was the Director General of Operations and Director General of Technical Services polled 245 votes against Lawyer Ralph Opoku Adusei who polled 662 votes.
COP(Retired) George Tuffuor polled 324 votes against 209 votes for the incumbent Hon Emmanuel Agyei Anwhire, 395 votes for the victor Madam Shirley Kyei and 6 votes for Dr Dennis Addo.
By the results, the incumbent MP has been toppled by a first-timer female candidate who has since been duly declared the NPP’s parliamentary candidate in the 2024 polls.
Meanwhile, 940 Delegates cast their Votes in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Constituency with 35 Delegates absent
