Wontumi has a lot of ‘secret’ business deals with Manhyia – Maurice Ampaw –

Lawyer Maurice Ampaw has disclosed that Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, widely known as Chairman Wontumi, has several undisclosed business dealings with the Asantehene that some Ashanti Chiefs are not aware of.

He made this revelation after the Kumasi Traditional Council, demanded his presence and that of Chairman Wontumi following reports of the latter challenging the authority of Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II during a party event.

Maurice Ampaw, who has also been invited by the Kumasi Chiefs, asserted that the traditional leaders are unaware of the close relationship between Chairman Wontumi and the Asante king.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Eko Sii Sen program, Maurice Ampaw said: “I am Wontumi’s lawyer and I can tell you a lot of business deals going on between Wontumi and Manhyia but they don’t know,” he revealed. He added that he is close to the Asantehene.

“In 2012 the Asantehene sent Tepahene to come and pick me up from Accra to see him,” lawyer Ampaw said explaining how the Asantehene sought his assistance for a campaign to fight negative disinformation.

It appears Lawyer Ampaw is calling the bluff of the Kumasi Traditional Council who have pledged to get to the bottom of the controversy featuring Chairman Wontumi.

Already, the lawyer has announced his intention to drag an Ashanti Chief to court over a remark made as the controversy unfolds.

The Divisional Heads of the Kumasi Traditional Councilagain have expressed indignation about the purported use of two of Kumasi-based radio stations owned by Chairman Wontumi by Maurice Ampaw, to further denigrate chiefs in the Ashanti region.

Meanwhile, Lawyer Ampaw has made it known that he will not be meeting the Kumasi Traditional Council on Monday, January 29, 2024, due to their biased position.
