A judge has granted permission for the judgment in which Asamoah Gyan was asked to pay a journalist and former writer of Ghbase.com Osarfo Anthony Ghc1 million to be posted at his mansion at Weija and 2 other places.
Recall that on December 8, 2023, Asamoah Gyan was asked to pay Ghc1 million to Osarfo Anthony in damages and other fees after he was sued for malicious prosecution by the journalist over a 2015 incident where Asamah Gyan had sued Osarfo Anthony and three others for extortion when the whole Sarah Kwablah scandal blew up.
After the case ended in March 2019, where Osarfo Anthony, Sarah Kwablah, Chris Handler & Ekow Michah were all acquitted and discharged by the court, Osarfo decided to sue Asamoah Gyan for malicious prosecution in 2019 and in December 2023, he won his case and Justice Ernest Owusu-Dapaa of the High Court imposed damages of over Gh1 million on Asamoah Gyan.
It appears that Asamoah Gyan has not paid up the money and has not also appealed the case, as there have been difficulties in serving Gyan and his manager, Anim Addo the judgment, hence the decision of the legal team of Osarfo Anthony to get the court to approve an order for a substituted service to be used.
On Tuesday January 23, 2024, the court approved that and has instructed that the judgement be posted on the notice board of the High Court Complex, Gyan’s residence near Old Broadcasting, and the notice of the Ghana Football Association
The judge who approved the order of substituted service, Justice Owusu-Dapaa, also stated that the posting would remain for 14 days after which it would be deemed as effectively served
