Suffering a penalty shootout defeat in last season’s play-off final to Luton took its toll on Coventry in the early stages of the campaign, but the Sky Blues are now settled and have their eyes set on securing another top-six finish in the Championship.
An overhaul in personnel, which included losing star striker Viktor Gyokeres and assist king Gustavo Hamer, was another hindrance for manager Mark Robins.
So it should be no surprise that Coventry won only three of their opening 16 games but, having now played 27 times, they are up to sixth and performing like one of the stronger sides in the division.
Fresh from a 3-1 success at home to runaway leaders Leicester, Coventry will be fancying their chances of stretching their unbeaten run to nine at Hillsborough.
Sheffield Wednesday have improved considerably since the start of the campaign, but they have still lost three of their last five, which includes a 2-0 reverse at Coventry on Boxing Day.
The Owls find themselves third from bottom and are four points adrift of safety.
Team news
Sheffield Wednesday have George Byers back from a three-match suspension, while Will Vaulks returned from a hamstring injury to play 45 minutes in last Saturday’s 4-0 defeat at Southampton.
Mohamed Diaby is still building up his match fitness so is a likely substitute while Dominic Iorfa and John Buckley remain sidelined through injury. However, Brighton loanee James Beadle should earn a debut between the sticks.
Coventry remain without key forward Haji Wright, so Matt Godden and Ellis Simms are set to compete to lead the line.
Victor Torp, a January arrival from Norwegian side Sarpsborg, should come into Coventry’s midfield, replacing one of Josh Eccles or Ben Sheaf.

Prediction
There is no doubt that the October appointment of Danny Rohl has triggered an upturn in fortunes for Wednesday, so much so that survival is no longer out of the equation.
However, they meet a team in Coventry that are operating at the peak of their powers with only title rivals Leicester and Southampton having amassed more points than them over the last ten Championship matches.
Coventry’s rampant form has included wins over table-topping Leicester, play-off hopefuls Middlesbrough and Sunderland, as well as 1-1 draws with promotion-chasing duo Leeds and Southampton.
That highlights their capabilities and suggests they should have too much quality for Sheffield Wednesday who, despite their improvement, have lost three of their last five league matches.
That recent run includes a 2-0 loss away at Coventry and that form is expected to be upheld at Hillsborough.
