A 21-year-old woman has been sentenced to six years imprisonment by a circuit court at Old Tafo in Kumasi for the abduction of a four-year-old girl in Mampongteng, Ashanti Region.
Priscilla Adutwumwaa, an unemployed resident of Kokofu in the Bekwai Municipality, has been convicted on the charge of child stealing, a violation of Section 93 of the Criminal and Other Offences Act 1960 (Act 29).
During proceedings on Thursday (11 January), Her Honor Mrs Lawrencia A.A.D Gyamfi, presiding over the court, convicted Adutwumwaa based on her plea.
Detective Inspector S.K. Oppong, representing the prosecution, informed the court that Abena Owusuwaa, a trader in Mampongteng within the Kwabre East Municipality, reported the incident to the police on December 16, 2023, seeking assistance.
He said investigations led by the police at Mampongteng led to the arrest of Adutwumwaa together with the victim at Adum on 3 January 2024.
The convict was later arraigned for prosecution. The young girl has since been reunited with her family.
