Serwaa Amihere appointed as Bonwire Kente ambassador

On January 10, 2024, Serwaa Amihere, a radio writer who has won many awards, was named an advocate for Bonwire Kente.

Hajia Samira Bawumia, the Second Lady of the Republic of Ghana, opened the ultramodern Bonwire Kente Museum in the Ejisu Municipality of the Ashanti Region.

This is part of the government’s plan to bring more tourists to the country.

As an envoy, Serwaa’s job is to promote Asante Kente, which will help bring outsiders to the country, especially to Bonwire and the surrounding area.

In the last few decades, Kente has been one of Ghana’s most famous and cherished cultural products.

As ambassador, Serwaa’s job is to make this fame even bigger around the world and use it to get as much attention as possible for Ghana from this beautiful fabric.

It is also thought that this ambassadorial position will help bring more tourists to the country.

As a proud native of Sewua in the Ashanti Region, Serwaa Amihere thanked the Second Lady and everyone else in the room for the respect and chance to represent Bonwire Kente, and she promised to do a great job in her new role.

In addition to launching a yearly Kente event at Bonwire, the gathering put together by the Ghana Tourism Authority also introduced Serwaa Amihere as the Kente Ambassador and main figurehead.

Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Arts and Culture Hon. Mark Okraku Mantey, the Ashanti Regional Minister Hon. Simon Osei Mensah, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority Mr. Akwasi Agyemang, the Board Members of the Ghana Tourism Authority, the Paramount Queen mothers of the Asante kingdom, the Sewua Queenmother, other sub-queen mothers from the region, and Afua Asantewaa of Guinness World Records sin were all there.
