Mr Robert Akurugu Ajene, a celebrated educationist has died at the age of 85. Mr Ajene who is well respected for his pioneering roles in the establishment and management of several key educational institutions in the country, especially in the Upper East passed away on December 31, 2023.
An Elder of the Governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Upper East Region, Mr Ajene was a much sought after person in education management and development issues facing the Northern Ghana.
Born in Sambologo in the Bongo Districton 15th October 15th, 1938, Mr Ajene attended the Tamale Senior High School and proceeded to the University of Ghana where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology and later a professional Diploma in Education from the University of Cape Coast.
He served in many key positions in the education service before becoming a Regional Director of Education for the Upper Region. Through his instrumentality, the Zebilla Community Secondary School and the Bolgatanga Technical Institute were established.
He will later worked to set up the Wa Community Secondary School too
Mr Ajene is well remembered in the Upper East as a pioneer rector of the Bolgatanga Polytechnic ( Now Bolgatanga Technical University.
