Klopp gives Robertson update –

Stay up to date with all the latest Premier League news with our round-up of the key talking points from today’s top-flight press conferences.

Robertson out till after January

Jurgen Klopp has issued an update on the injured left-back Andy Robertson’s fitness ahead of Liverpool’s upcoming Premier League match with Newcastle.

The Scottish defender has been unavailable since he underwent shoulder surgery in October.

Klopp said: “Robbo still needs more range in his shoulder. Obviously it was a big surgery. He’s still not even close to team training or whatever.

“He can do a lot, everything without using the arm properly, which is obviously good, but on the other side shows us we still have a long way to go.

“For sure, I think the full January he will be [out]. He has to get closer and closer.”

Robertson’s lack of availability is a blow to Liverpool at a time when reserve left-back Kostas Tsimikas is out with a broken collarbone.

Eddie Howe has spoken about the importance of Newcastle midfielder Joelinton to his side.

The Brazilian returned from injury during the Magpies’ 3-1 home defeat against Nottingham Forest on Boxing Day.

Howe said: “Whenever you lose a player of Joe’s quality you realise how important they are.

“When he came on, he showed what he brings.

“His ability in duels and to bring that fight in midfield is something we missed in the game, so fingers crossed we can keep him fit.”

Joelinton has recovered from a hamstring injury that kept him out of the Carabao Cup exit to Chelsea and the away loss to Luton.
