Rising Afrobeats artist Divine Ikubor, widely known as Rema, has addressed accusations regarding “demonic” masks worn during his performances, stating that they are replicas of the bronzes worn by his ancestors.
Following his show at London’s 02 Arena, Rema faced criticism and Illuminati rumours.
A supporter from Benin City defended Rema, asserting that the mask belonged to Queen Idia, a symbol of the Benin Kingdom.

Rema clarified that the mask is a reproduction of bronzes created by his forefathers, some of which are exhibited in the London Museum.
He emphasised that he aims to redefine Edo State and showcase it globally.
In his words, “RAVAGE UPRISING/My Ancestors bronzes sit in the museum of this very city so I remade mine. Hence, Edo is redefined, the map reshaped, your minds awakened & the mask reborn. Thank you, London!????????”
