United Nations Development Planning (UNDP) has pledged its commitment to working with its partners in the quest to fight against violent extremism in the West African sub Region.
The United Nations Development Planning (UNDP) Residents Representative, Dr. Angela Lusigi made this call at the launch of the “Project on Strengthening Community Resilenace and Engagement to prevent and respond to violent extremism in Ghana, Benin,Togo and Cote d’Ivoire.
The project aims to enhance the role of leaders to contribute to building sustainable peace and strengthening the participation in advocating for community needs and the Prevention of Violent Extremism.
Dr. Angela Lusigi called for more robust regional response that went beyond a securitized approach to be able to address emerging drivers and conflict by community resilience and strengthening early warning and action which needs to be addressed as a matter or urgency.
The ambassador of Denmark, Tom Norring said they are ready to work with UNDP with the coastal states to maintain stability and prevent violent extremism.
He said, Denmark has a long relationship with Ghana and they have achieved a lot in common.
