The Chiefs and people of Denkyira Opponso in the Upper Denkyira East Municipality of the central region have appealed to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), to replace the electricity transformer, which got burnt more than a year.
The entire community has been impacted, leaving them all in complete darkness and fearing that some thieves may come and rob them one day.
The residents lamented that for about one year, they hadn’t had electricity.
According to the populace, they were unable to use their electrical devices, and the lack of a consistent power supply had an impact on the operations of small-scale firms. They pleaded with the Ministry to seriously consider the matter in order to support the growth of local businesses.
The Queen mother of Denkyira Opponso, Nana Ama Asamoah II, stated that small-scale enterprises were being impacted by the lack of electricity in an interview with Mohammed Radiu Dinn Rasko,Dunkwatv.com. She also mentioned that nurses, teachers, and other government employees had also been impacted.
She claimed that as a result of the circumstance, some people have been compelled to rent generators for use in daily life.
To protect them from any potential danger, she urged the Ministry of Energy to act quickly to replace the transformer.
The Assembly member of the area, Ibrahim Dramani claimed that numerous appeals to the Upper Denkyira East Municipal Office and the Regional Office of the were unsuccessful.
He added that he has personally reported the issues to the Municipal Chief Executive Officer ,Mr Ebenezer Appiah Forson and Member Of Parliament Hon. Festus Awuah Koffie but their promise to fix the problem has been mere rhetoric.
“After almost a year we don’t know what to do but still seeking for help from all ensundery, maybe there will be help from somewhere ” he told www.dunkwatv.com.
He said that a previous attempt to repair the burned-out transformer that occurred as a result of a thunderclap through the office of the municipal chief executive had failed.
Meanwhile, some of the students and residents claimed that their education, businesses, healthcare and security had all suffered because of the lack of energy.
They claim that their long-standing electricity problem needs to be addressed right now since they are currently concerned, overwhelmed, and unable to handle the issue.
A heavy rain with thunder and lightning defaulted the transformer on 15th May 2022.
On 1st Sept 2023, Six communities Opponso were connected to the national through the efforts of Former MP Nana Amoako.
