Venture into input sales – Absa Head advises youth

The Head of Agribusiness at Absa, William Nettey, has entreated Ghanaian youth to go into input sales.

He highlighted the many opportunities available within the agricultural value chain, in which the youth could venture into to earn a living for themselves.

Contributing to a panel discussion on the fourth edition of the Citi Business Festival on Citi TV, hosted by Head of News at Citi FM/Citi TV, Vivian Kai Lokko, Mr. Nettey further advised the youth to also partner with established organizations that could give out products on credit.

This year’s Business Festival was under the theme “Understanding and Leveraging Agribusiness Value Chains”.

According to him, the youth could earn some income with such partnerships.

“Right from the input dealers, there are opportunities, so young people can go into input sales. We are talking about value chain, so I want people to understand that along the value chain, we have input dealers, aggregators, producers, processors, consumers, within all these areas, there are opportunities.”

“So if you are a young person and you are looking for an opportunity, you can just go into input sales. And you may not have all the finances, you can get into a relationship with a big organization that sells, or which can give you something on credit to sell, and that is how it begins. You can also go into farming where there are opportunities along the line,” he urged.

He indicated that the financial institutions are willing to provide credit facilities to emerging companies depending on their books.

“The financial institutions, we see these opportunities and we are targeting our financing into some of them. It’s how prepared the enterprises are, that also drives us [banks]. What do they have ready for us to look out to be able to lend? Are you able to put a statement together? Is it audited? How much is your profit, bookkeeping, if you are going into agribusiness? These things help the banks to have a view about your company. If you are going into agri-business, crop production, aggregation, how much of it do you know?” he asked.
