Dickens Hyson Thunde – Celebrating the Legacy of a Hero

Dickens Thunde will be retiring from World Vision after over 30 years of working as a development professional and working as National Director for World Vision Ghana from 2017 to 2023.

Dickens was a blessing to World Vision Ghana; Dickens raised Ghana’s flag high during the 2023 Triennial Council Meeting, the first in West Africa.

Achievements

Dickens’ human-centred and result-focused policies addressed a wide range of challenges, including staff welfare, staff retention, capacity building, structural development, programming, and implementation. All of this improved administration efficiency, resource mobilization, staff effectiveness, delivery and productivity.

This strategically positioned and enabled World Vision Ghana to win the top-performing national office award two consecutive times, under his leadership.

Furthermore, World Vision Ghana received recognition from the government of Ghana for its contributions to the fight against COVID-19 at the 2023 National Awards Ceremony.

In 2021, World Vision Ghana won the UNESCO-Japan Prize on Education for Sustainable Development Award through its Unlock Literacy Project and the Millennium Excellence Foundation (MEF), Millennium Excellence Award, for Urban and Rural Development.

In addition, World Vision Ghana also won the Best HR Management in the NGO Sector Award for the second year running at the 2021 Awards.

Going further and touching lives with World Vision Ministry

World Vision has reached more than 2 million children with water, sanitation, and hygiene services, education, food, nutrition, and health security interventions. Through the Let the Children Come Project, WVG trained and built children’s capacity to advocate for issues affecting them. This support has made them more self-reliant and develop the skills they need to become leaders in their communities. WVG interventions have positively impacted thousands of children, families, and communities. This has allowed them to reach their potential.

Before becoming National Director of World Vision Ghana, Dickens held similar positions at World Vision Kenya and Malawi. He also provided strategic leadership support to World Vision Ethiopia and World Vision Tanzania.

Dickens spent his professional career creating an environment where children thrive, families grow, and communities develop. He can best be remembered professionally for his Efficiency, Agility, Grace, Love, Execution, and Speed (EAGLES) strategic framework, his spiritual upliftment and humility.

World Vision Ghana will forever remember Dickens for his exemplary leadership.
